Checkmating Insanity

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

A press conference that was nothing more than a snit with China. Not a mention of Minneapolis or Floyd. Might the game be losing? (Image by colorbox)

Poem Artwork

Checkmating Insanity

Once but a mere checkered board for pleasure,
A tactical game of strategic thinking,
Now of real-world  monstrous competitive proportions,
Played by youngsters with dreams,

Labored by adults learning patience is brutal,
Trophy prone by adolescents understanding little,
But the game.

Bishops preach.
Knights recon.
Castles wait.
And the androgynous queen makes its check
While the pawns scamper,
Knowing capture is but time spent
In temporary confinement,
Until the next battle.

A game played with blacks and whites,

Yellows and browns,
Carved and molded,
Digitized and magnetized,
All pieces sacrificed if necessary
To protect the seat of power.

Eventually…

Nothing is merely conquered.
Destruction of the playing field
Remains all important.
Checkmate is of zero mercy.

Such is the White House

And its end game’s hopeful end.

While Trump whines that "everything was going so well…" The reality is that all of those unemployed with nothing left to fall back on… Particularly the young… Have a vehicle for venting their anger taking from "the rich" storeowners what is rightfully theirs, being unable to or unwilling to work for the goods they are taking or even pay for the destruction of property that is the result.

Conservatives in control, have forced a widening schism between the haves and have-nots, reducing regulations allowing the rich to get richer and the middle class to shrink. The pendulum is swinging back like you expressed your poem using medieval terms. The dual threat of black protest and invisible virus, are quickly dismantling the false pretense of good king conservatism, that will lead to a landslide overthrow of the old and backward thinking of our government. Good riddance.

Everyone has an endgame. The real endgame should be to repaint the stained White House and put in a new occupant. It's up to us.
