To Feel Happy
To feel happy
Is to…
Find joy in the hard lessons learned
Seek the positive side to everything
Disallow momentary sadness to linger
But, oh, what a task
What challenges to accept and work on
Like practicalities…
Thinking the skipping of higher learning will not impede his potential
Forever practicing dangerous habits like jaywalking
Forgetting that giving a compliment goes a long way
Ignoring damaging choices of food
Condemning exercise as waste of time
Avoiding yearly doctor visits
Perhaps most important
Is to…
Utilize all your senses
Recognize the many facets of love…
See the shade of a tree as an embrace
Hear the gentle lapping of a seashore as nature’s caress
Smell the earth after a rainfall as perfume of the life’s caring
Touch the fallen bird from its nest with compassion
Taste the tears you shed as heart’s passion
To feel happy
Is our natural gift to create
I find myself intrinsically happy. Troubles fall off my shoulders when I realize that what is happening on TV is only the very worst of things that happiness helps us avoid. Lately, many news programs have, after being accused of being too narrow-minded and focusing on tragedy, begun to show us funny and happy things going on all the time in every community that give us joy.
And the poets here, extolling nature, are right about that. Nature seems so peaceful and warm, until you watch your loving, purring cat pounce on and kill your favorite songbird in the yard for fun because you feed her the best cat food in a can there is.
Happiness is the long periods of joy and wonder for most of us, until tragedy strikes.
