Eviction

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Most of us can’t comprehend the devastation potential of throwing a family and its possessions onto the lawn or the street through eviction. Perhaps, it’s time to think about that disaster, Mr. President, and do one of your “executive orders” to save some humans… Yeah, humans.

Eviction

There are bills to pay, Landlord says.

I have property taxes.

I, too, have family and responsibilities

So…

First of the month

Rent is due.

Sir

Ma’am

It

I'm living on Chef-boy-ar-dee shit

I run rusty water to shower

I have paint peeling

I need repairs

I am but a renter

With no job

Been laid off

Unemployment Insurance has run out

Sir

Ma’am

It

Humanity wasn’t designed this way

Whether by your God

Or my doG

We are victims like you

There must be a way to work this out

Yes?

No?

Don’t tell me you don’t have a fall-back

Don’t ask if I do

Extend, extend, extend

You think others will pick up this dump with your fancy door to rent?

That wasn’t nice

My apologies

We appreciate your cooperation

Extend, extend, extend

We’re not deadbeats

Even though the MAN in the big White House

Likes to portray us that way

Perhaps that’s why he maligns the military dead

As “losers” too

We’ve always paid our rent on time before the virus

Why now

You are treating us like “losers”?

You know we’re not

You know that…

Sir

That POS45 is a jerk, Odin. I don't remember anything like this going on in this country............except for the last four years.

Love ya!

Those are good reasons for becoming neither a renter nor a landlord.
Good options: Become a caretaker of a lighthouse where you are doing well to just keep the lights on, or an astronomer who lives high on a hill and stays glued to his telescope while trying to understand things not of this world.

It really is a monumental problem for so many "average Americans", many people that I know, who can't pay the basic bills. You have laid it out quite clearly here. Well done.
