Winter of Discontent
Pity the crippled man-child losing it all.
He only has a wanton ant on the wall
To contemplate with on his next step.
Others have photos and paintings of saints.
Along with skyward dreams among the clouds.
While winter sends its icy message,
His chill might be interminable,
For he’s all alone,
Keeping himself hidden,
Incapable to decide his next move.
Like the ant,
He too retraces his steps
Over and over,
Finding himself
Addressing only walls,
No windows anywhere.
Surrounding trees
Cast dark silhouettes
Over his bunker-like end days,
Seeming permanent,
Day or night.
Undaunted is the ant,
But clear and present danger
Invades the man who hears
The distant roar behind the unseen shadows.
The tsunami of hurt
Is moving rapidly
As he tries to run left and right
In his never-ending maze of mistaken turns,
Unable to avoid the slow gurgling sound of drowning
That inevitably accompanies the flood of pain.
Will there be anyone to adopt an orphan-man,
Save the minions of other ant-like followers
Wandering aimlessly
In search of purpose
Now that his days dwindle
And his making of a different “winter of our discontent” threatens.
As the ants and humans
Prepare for a contemporary version of
“made glorious summer by this sun of York,”
The man in the big White House
Finds he too is “Deformed, unfinished,
Sent before his time into this breathing world,
Scarce half made up.”
But,,,
Unlike Richard,
This man is real
And truly corrupt,
Sadistic,
Manipulative
And determined
To become king.
God help us.
So don't be in a hurry to assign Trump the role of villain in history, after a few years of Dementia Joe and Krazy Kamala, somebody writing a play or movie script portraying Trump as a sympathetic character, they way that after 8 years of Obama people were wring that Dubya wasn't such a bad president after all could change they way history views him.
I enjoyed the poem but as someone else said it does tend to draw on the media caricature of Trump, which is perfectly OK for satire of course.
The really interesting story of English royalty in that era is that of King Edward 1V, official the nephew of Henry V but rumour has it that Edward was conceived while his dear old dad, the King's brother Richard of York was hundreds of miles away fighting in Flanders. There is reasoable evidence that Edward iV's mother Cecily Neville had a fling with an archer named Blaybourne.
Shakespeare could not write that story of course, it would have called the legitimacy of the monarchy into question.

"But,,,
Unlike Richard,
This man is real"
King Richard 3 was real too. He reigned from 1483-1485. The last King of the House of York, and the shortest reign of any King. Richard was misrepresented by Shakespeare. He became a caricature to suit the play. Many do that with Trump. You seem to allude to things getting better when Trump leaves and Biden takes over. I am not convinced of that in any way. There's more controversy and in-fighting now than ever. Biden is out of his league, he's a trojan horse. He is not going to appease the Democrats, he is going to appease his handlers. Our society is becoming more and more Orwellian. It's remarkable. The signs are everywhere. The Military is going to be responsible for distributing the Covid-19 vaccine. You'd have to be blind not seeing that for what it really is. A global autocrat is coming, and the 2nd greatest event in human history is approaching as well. Thanks for sharing. r
