Waiting for January's Tomorrow

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

As we confront a new year, in spite of life’s daily reminders of unrequited love’s existence, whether personal, or otherwise, there remains the choice to stay in a state of love when considering the right thing to do. A principal of being human that far too many have forfeited. (Image by pinterest)

Waiting for January’s Tomorrow

Today I wait for the imminent tomorrow
past questions without answers
beyond future memories
and proffered hope

Even as

Expected thorns
may challenge this journey
protecting as they do
such fragile blooming

The trek continues
trusting mind and spirit
protect each other

Day rests
as evening's retired rainbows
prepare layered colors
over past canvases
quietly remembered
never forgotten

Inspired new palettes
mix shimmering colors
for those willing
to risk new discovery

Tomorrow

I will revisit my long wait through years of tonight
recalling the confined breeze
delivering a gentle fragrance
the honesty of a smile
the dance upon glistening eyes
when stars made luminous their nod

For an honest heart
embraces time
knowing presence of truth
needs not the sun
nor the moon
to light a soul's journey
through any day's shadows

Of maintaining the state of love
little can be assured
but much can be nurtured
imagining always

there could be tomorrows of caring

even past the next four years.

It would be very nice if we could, "maintain a state of love," throughout the years ahead. But there are those that will always fall back accusative stand judging everything by some ancient book or another that has long crumbled into the dust of angry archaic.

I prefer shiny new love like a child's open smile. Don't you? Of course you do.

As far as I am concerned, January cannot come soon enough. Looking forward, as you hopefully say, to "tomorrows of caring", for a change.

In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity. Always! The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials. Loving and respecting one another is a powerful unifier. Enjoyed. Thanks for sharing. rlc
