Dream to Awaken
Like apples waiting to be plucked,
Peeled wrappings of birthday and Christmas expectations,
All-day suckers condemned,
Taken away by loving mothers.
Dreams
Abandon the risk of Life's sugar rot
Knowing gentle sweetness is always savored
Before the angry sour,
That some eye rolls of pleasure are forever overdue,
Even while seeking the danger,
The longing for cotton candy laughter,
A willingness to sustain bubble gum hair barbs
Just to smell the juicy,
To hear the noise of layered laughter,
To see Time Square's New Year madness
To...
Dream
To walk down an aisle,
Awaiting bliss-enshrined promises,
To believe in princesses
Awaiting their knight in shining armor,
To garner points for accepting youth's naiveté,
To know that dreams are here today,
Often gone tomorrow.
Yet
Dream we must
For an ever-expanding
Reality awakening.
