Philosophizing Delusions

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Some of us are old enough to remember the Orson Wells voice in: “The Shadow Knows.” As a child you heard it a certain way. As a senior? Well, the shadow’s voice is a bit disquieting, don’t you think? (Image by Pinterest)

Philosophizing Delusions

Death is often thought of as a shadow,

Always behind you,

But never out of reach,

Persistently lurking behind the delusion

Some call life,

Others dismissing such fixation

As without foundation.

But…

Is it?

Shadow is always nudging us,

“See”

“Watch out now”

And this specter never has to open

Its mouth for us to hear

“I have a cautionary message for you.”

With such foreknowing experience

You don’t challenge this stealthy chimera

After all,

There’s no hubris in his voice

Just a whisper that seems

To echo softly

As you move about,

Sometimes causing a glance over your shoulder

Sometimes causing the need to hide beneath your pillow

Often as you embrace nocturnal escape

As your reality.

Awakening,

You feel once again

The vibration of his presence.

The shadow is inescapable…

Eventually.
