Circadian Demons

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Reading some deep-searching poetry today left me realizing how complex and confusing this process of creativity can be to all of us...and at times very daunting. As we often learn, outside influences overwhelm the resolve to create. In particular: daytime, usually early morning, many find this part of the day least distracting. Others find the night when all is quiet the best time to lay ideas to paper. It is perhaps those who try an obviate the distractions that persist and win the isolation needed. (Image by pinterest)

Poem Artwork

Circadian Demons

like the fugues of trumpeted energy asunder

they come in the night

and spare not the day

they are the whirlpools of one's infamy

they play with the black

mock the white

softness is but a toy to them

until it's not

how difficult

this treading of water

avoiding the vortex that would

destroy the noiseless space of peace

that rests upon the staff of life's symphony

yet some will pause

and listen

to their levitation within

for the conscious know premature closure

is the obviating of nature's rationale

a few will awaken to the rush

the second and third movements

provide for the prepared

while others

finding the work unfinished

the last stanza needing more time

will scribe another page of their manuscript

and experience the pleasure of

circadian demons finding themselves

consumed by their nemesis

the unpredictable

 nighttime you

(I agree), it can be a 'complex confusing' process. For me it's also a frustrating one. For as long as I can remember I've deleted 60-70% of what I write. It gets wearisome, and my 'hands' get raw digging through the muck to find a gem. But still I search. I think (personally) a poem is never really complete. IMO, you can always go back and make it better. Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed. rlc

I find it fascinating what you lay out here in terms of the creative process, mysterious as it may be. For me, it is not the time of day that really matters; it's having the idea come to mind that I consider to be a potential poem, an idea with legs that I think I can work with. Once that comes, it doesn't matter whether it is day or night, just that I have the time and leisure, and yes "presence of mind" to do it.
