You
Have you introduced the you to you,
The way an enigmatic visitor at your door would?
For all the wayward missteps the you of you has experienced,
Have you gathered enough seats in your room
For your musical-chair charade
Of shrinking back into the multiple you of you thoughts
As you stare into space at the mirror
That isn’t there?
Might you have a match to light,
Make all your you of you personages
Shadow dance on the walls,
Or levitate dream-like to the ceiling
Like moths seeking out light
Any light
Before they take their bow
As the curtain drops
And sunrise catches your dwindling flame
Chasing them and the you of you ghosts away
Just as the match burns down to your fingertips?
My risks have been small, concerned primarily with adventure rather than venture, so my mistakes and outweigh heavy on me like you seem to portray in your poem. I will admit that I might've been wealthier, but probably not healthier, had I taken other paths.
I don't lie awake at night thinking about them. But I did spend a bit of last night Dreaming about a high school flame for a Hollywood reject. She was a real beauty, but hard and coarse like a man.
