Death on Hold

Thinking we have answers can be lonely. Perhaps only unanswered questions hold the resolution

Death on Hold

Once,
the what of lonely was asked,
“why is this heart feeling tired
worn out
fatigued?

Are flowers
no longer to open their petals
skies to remain gray and void of love's colors?”

The what of lonely invoked the dialectic with
“Is this isolation but the result of passion unanswered,
regrets unheard,
contriteness unaccepted,
weeping without acceptance of self?”

With a caress...

“Could lonely be more than a word of sadness?
Might it be but death on hold?”

The questioning gathered its shadows and disappeared,
leaving behind a robin's egg,
moving precariously
beneath a mother
peering out intently
as a dawning sky
emerged.

Never thought of loneliness that way. My periods of loneliness were often relieved by the appearance of a new love that was better than the one lost. But eventually, even the revivals of new lovers runs out and we are faced with the reality of our death.

I'm ready. I'm also willing to hold it off a little longer if the right lover comes along. ;-)

Unanswered questions are far less dangerous than unquestioned answers. Especially in religion, politics, and science. Still, there are definitive answers to many questions. The cycle of life on planet earth (flora and fauna) answers every important question humans need to know. A thoughtful piece. Thanx for sharing. r

You raise an important point. The whole question/answer conundrum is puzzling. We may have questions; but no answers; answers without thinking of the proper questions; indeed the wrong questions seeking wrong answers. Your image of the robin's egg to me is both question and answer; perhaps the best question/answer of all.
