Delusions Passing

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Many a philosopher believes life is a delusion that one day stops. Other Eastern thinkers proffer the idea of such a moment is when one awakens. The conundrum widens with other believers that harbor fear and devotion to a different kind of faith.

Delusions Passing

Solitary Room

Once a space for prudent reading,

The chair never gets sat on.

Dust motes of yore,

Their frolicking days gone,

Lay dormant,

While lattice work of yellow fish on peeling wallpaper

Maintain close watch on you.

It grows late…

A small crucifix above the bed

Watches closely the stopped clock

Refusing to start up again,

As your undying faith endures more genuflecting,

Layering yet further callouses upon your knees.

When all else fails and everything stops, faith does indeed endure and continues to live. It's what keeps many people going. Nothing wrong in that. Everyone has faith and believes in something, even if it not faith in God or Christ or whatever. They may be "free" as Ron suggests below, but they are not "free" of their own belief system, whatever that may be.

It seems to be ingrained in human beings who are conditioned from birth to kneel down before the Lord of the Manor in absolute fealty. So they are never really free and bear the cross of their lives for naught.
