Our territorial passion is always at war with our compassion. I hear people always say that they will "protect their family," regardless of what their family may be doing. We bond together in tribes always for protection and end up in war.

Unraveling of civilization seems to point towards total anarchy with great loss of human life. But, one might speculate this as a "good" thing, because those few survivors would find themselves free of all that territorial posturing and warring. Perhaps not.

It seems to me that you are question the possibility of the preservation of hope in the hearts of humanity for "a new beginning" as you say for survivors to "climb the ladders of peace." I share you noble sentiments.
