The Rolling Stone

We often forget the varied journeys Nature’s natural shedding process affords us to appreciate, from flower, weed, leaf, and mountain rock. (Image by pinterest)

Poem Artwork

The Rolling Stone

Explorer Extraordinaire

Is the rock of rocks

Tumbling over cliff

Overhang,

Scree flooding

Rivers meandering

To oceans

Unexpected transportation without struggle

Stone now a rubber-hitcher

Lodges itself in crunching tire tread

Takes the whirlwind travel

From mountain road

To superhighway

Where off-ramp spells

Truckstop

Weigh station

Tollbooth

Or Pacific highway rest stop

With tire at rest

Rock hops down from wedged hitchhike

Eventually blows down the embankment

To find purchase on the sandy shore

To be tumbled by tide to other shores

How fortuitous the find

A child’s hand

Picks isolated traveler

From the many polished pebbles

Sighting the sparkle

The glint

The carry forth of mountain granite

Its mica minerals

A gemstone for a child’s imagination

The mystery of nature always thrills the hearts of those who stop to admire its splendor. Beautiful pen, Odin.

Your reverence for up-close observation of nature couples with your imagination in a spectrum of ways, Odin. The degree with which you identify with the outdoor world around you is so encapsulating, and reverent. This one would garner respect from Native American Indian schools of thought and value. Noted how “A child’s hand” carries innocence, appreciation and ‘future.’ I think there isn’t an object or life form or experience that would take your pencil away from you writing about it. Pretty neat ~~ djl

Move one pebble, and a million years down the road the
world changes--some where, some how, some way. It's a big
responsibility to carry one down a mountainside.

A very unique way of looking at the world. A pebble's random journey from the mountaintop to the beach. Not viewed by the small child picking it up, but by the silent observer of billions of pedals, overseeing their journeys with minute precision.

Kudos to the poet!
