Purpose Taken Away

Perhaps the quest of securing a reason for being is fraught with more obstacles that those without a need for purpose might understand. (Painting by Dali)

Purpose Taken Away

What do the tree roots think

When fire destroys its branches

What does a calm sea shore do

When erosion takes away all its memories

What does a heart and mind do

When it is stripped of love’s continuance

So much of life is with purpose

So often

Life must bear its loss

Yet…

How fortunate for those of us

Able to find words to express such loss

To hopefully arrest other’s attention

To the risk of thinking purpose

Is permanent

Even though…

Purpose can find other focuses

Other hearts and minds willing

To take the risk

After all…

What is life

Without a willingness

To risk

Even though answers to such a need

May be hesitant in coming.

Yes, life is not fair. In order to survive this life, one must be willing to change. Sometimes change drastically, in order to survive, emotionally, if not physically. And the ability to write down anguish is a way to overcome it.

A beautiful poem with its subtle, insightful imagery. "So much of life is with purpose, so often life must bear its loss," This a profound statement that sums up so much.

Wow, this is brimming full. “….stripped of love’s continuance” fully-acute description of that kind or ripping. “Able to find words…..” and here you surely did. So often…loss. An ache of a write and stunning image with it. Keep the writing writing! ~~ djl
