Shuttering the Storm

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Guilt and remorse takes many paths of redemption. Some are without answers.
Others are so clear and conclusive if we will but listen… past our facades. Such a catharsis this. (Image by Ana Monsanto)

Shuttering the Storm

Oh, how comforting

The shielding of the storm

A storm that wishes to continue

But the vagabond of life

Needs to close the adversity’s impact

It came as a melodic pattern of rain drops

Only to gradually become a shadowed tempest of hell

Yet…

It was necessary

For the beachcomber seeking answers

To know the ebb and tide

Of life’s cycles is ongoing

And what might seem grounded at the shore today

Is due to be washed into other shores of destiny’s plan tomorrow

How beautiful the everchanging tides

The shallow and the tidal waves

The tempest and the calm

The clouds that gather

The clearing with sun’s light to follow

Is it not possible we get so consumed with the now

The trials of our souls

Causing us to run

To hide

And then…

We awaken?

Is it the storm

Or the sunlight?

One’s inner light harkens

One’s inner being knows

But do we?

Perhaps it only takes

Opening the shutters

And facing what ever is out there

To know we might be ready

To face new storms

With courage

Not heretofore revealed to us

How sacred this journey

I was with you all the way until...
I couldn't get those damned shutters open.
Maybe the storm will pass.

The symbolism of the storm is a powerful one and something that we all can relate to. How has not weathered some kind of storm or another. Your last verse says it all: How sacred the journey, how human the storm.

We all find ourselves faced with tempests from time to time. How we weather them determines the strength of our character. With each one reaching a point of warm sunshine, we have survived another and are ready to face the day.
