Cursed

Might it be that as a species, we labor with anticipation, expectation, and disappointment far too often? What follows is deprecation. (Painting by Studio Zaki)

Poem Artwork

Cursed

CURSED ARE THE BIRTHS

that make up their dreams

that never quite come true

except in their dreams

CURSED ARE THE DREAMS

that live for their birth

that wait to be fertile

yet accept not the dawn

CURSED ARE THE DAWNS

that refuse to shine brightly

that refuse to give birth

that refuse to grant dreams

BUT BLESSED ARE THE QUIETUSES

that accepted the unrealized births

that rejected lives bereft of dreams

that allowed mortal risks to dawn

Don't always dream big or look for silver linings that may never
appear. Dreaming small is OK. Find worth even in the crevices of life. That is a powerful message, told with exceptional skill. Bravo!

An interesting concept that I agree with. But before I read, I thought that perhaps, we are cursed with the drive to succeed and consume more than we need in the event of a rainy day, eventually, to our own doom.
