Insider Joke

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Sometimes, some crazy levity is necessary. Ever feel like there’s an inner self that has to rearm everyday to govern your real being, that between the mind and the body, the body must be treated as merely an obsessed fan? Doesn’t it feel like the Theatre of the Absurd is evolving into the Reality of the Absurd? (Image by pinterest)

Insider Joke

So…

If my inner voice

Is divorced from my body,

Then what variation of mouth

Releases the words?

Just sayin’,

In front of the mirror

I speak

Because you opened your mouth.

When I whistle,

You whistle too.

When I’m silent,

(not often)

You’re quiet too.

When my mind’s-eye veers skyward,

Your eyelids open and peer downward,

Yet we make a single shadow.

Yours or mine?

And another thing..

I think you were there when I popped out

Screaming and dripping blood.

My mind was pretty dumb then.

Was yours?

Like…

If you were there in the beginning,

Will I have to put up with you

In the end?

So, okay…

In the darkness of my room,

When I shuffle the silent cards of our relationship,

It occurs to me:

You utter every word I send out,

But being the stranger you are,

It’s about time you paid your dues

 and spoke your own words…

Don’t you think?

C’mon body,

Loosen up.

So?

What, what?

There never was a punch line.

Thanks for commenting, though.

It’s about time.

I have come to the conclusion, my inner voice and I are the same being. I think we both experience the same sorrows and joys. Written in humor but truly thought provoking.

You wrote that you are going to write something funny, but did not put it in that genre when you posted. The poem seems to reflect some very Freudian thoughts on how people with brain disorders like schizophrenia have more than one personality rather than some joke hidden in the context. Like the Joker in the Batman series where even the Batman seems a bit deranged.

In the end you seem to be calling out for commenters in a melancholy way. All I could think about was that melancholy song by the Bee Gees, I Started a Joke…

An interesting take on the projection of the inner voice. Raises some questions worth pondering.

you are right, best to let him speak, made me curious of your conversations, how it goes, how does it end and begin again? as the grand enigma as you are, i am wondering.
