Time's Attic

This is just a stream of thought regarding the significance of Time’s partnership with light. (Image Mars Dust by pinterest)

Poem Artwork

Time’s Attic

Does the universe know of itself

without light giving

the floating residue of Time's attic

images of its ever-changing progress?

Archipelagos of micro-vortexes

listlessly clamor for survival

as sentient beings we,

hold tightly

our acquired beliefs,

our possessions,

our hubris.

Yet

Listening quietly

to the gradual attrition of our minds,

resolutely the invisible erosion of synapse

awaits simple sparks of illumination.

For

Just as the winged fluttering of the Papillion

sheds scales of beauty and color,

and attic memories forever suspend and collapse

expand and contract,

So too is not man's experience

merely a cosmic quiver of matter,

eventually jettisoning its used and worn

as celestial dust,

making room for future birth,

growth,

erosion,

perpetual movement?

Perhaps dust without light

is but infinity’s foreshadow,

awaiting Time's need

to shine illumination on

the infinitesimal substance of earth’s inevitable deemed dust.

Oh, if only such dust could evoke the remembrance,

stay aglitter to celebrate

the oneness of all existence,

continually stirring in

Time’s Attic.

you've given us so many lovely images, Odin. my favorite part is the dust without light and awaiting time's need to shine illumination. like how shadows are able to give off sparks. also reminded me of the loss halls of shadows that Blake mentioned. and that it is us that makes it alive. thank you for this beautiful introspection.

A delightful look at the universe from a philosophical rather than a scientific one. The universe ultimately recycles everything. And we see it, time and time again, looking back into the far reaches of time. The James Webb telescope enabling us to look back almost to the Big Bang itself.

What amazes me is that for the universe measurement we have to use large tools. While the speed of light boggles the mind, objects giving off light that we can see are so far away, that the time, and our terms, years, can be calculated. Even up to billions of years. Remarkable.

There is still hope and inquisitiveness in your words. "Time's attic." Arthur Conan Doyle's idea resonates with me. "I consider that a man's brain originally is like a little empty attic, and you have to stock it with such furniture as you choose." On a different note: Apparently, time slows down as you approach the speed of light, and when you pass the speed of light, time and physical light cease to exist, and you enter into the spirit realm. What a cool idea. Peace.... r
