Fast Lane's Long Ride

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Why are so many today entrapped in thinking they speed past the vicissitudes we all have sooner or later. So personal is the realm of confronting one’s fate.

Poem Artwork

Fast Lane’s Long Ride

For so long
How simple the decision
Adolescent verve clinging
Teens
Young adults
Adults
Delivering but blurred lines

Yet clarity awaits

How arresting
When canvases stretched
Invite wash of honest hues
Beckoning clear eyes quenched by truth
Extending visceral pigments rich
Arcing brush tendrils of mind's synapses
Across learning's pleading fiber
At last accepting not colors by numbers
Risking instead a rogue's palette
A liquefied Philip Glass expedition
Traversing life's uplifts
Unconquerable peaks
Endless deserts
Fathomless oceans
Undefined infinity

To be…

To float within the darkness
Revealing for those of impetus
Time's universe of questions and answers
Those raised textures of joy's essence
The sensorial pleasure of knowing

Existence immeasurable
Realizing matter survives
Even after bodily demise

How comforting
How fulfilling
To think slowly
To nurture one's duration
Staving off acceptance into
The fast lane’s long ride

You seem to suggest that there is something, like soul that continues once our bodies are gone, and attaches to new riders along the way.

Personally, my slate was totally clean as I began my life. Constantly questioning what was going on through much of my early development. The brain is but a brain. When filled with conspiracy it no longer functions properly anymore.

Your metaphor so apt for these times. Everyone seems to be living in the fast lane, even if they don't want to. It is almost incumbent upon them according to the nature of the times. Serene the person who can "float within the darkness revealing for those of impetus time's universe of questions and answers." A luxury few dare to afford these days.
