To Love Sadness
Sadness moves its dreariness
From personal identity
To world awareness,
Its gait that of hesitation
As love’s embrace reaches out.
How unpredicted this sorrow appears.
With slumped shoulders
Like a wilting bloom,
Eye slits watery
Like dew drops seeping,
Gravity’s Downward pull of body
Like waning strength of a flower’s stem,
Melancholy weighs heavily,
Fearful of more rear-view mirror storms.
How willingly gloom accepts the night,
Darkness being its trusted friend,
Accepting its distorted reactions,
Knowing slumbering rest cradles its grief,
Understanding the exhaustion
Of heart and mind combatting
The desolation confronting consciousness.
Upon wakefulness,
Sadness spreads its outward reach,
Unexpectedly encountering
A warm embrace,
An unconditional willingness,
An acceptance of misery
As the tears of compassion
Merge with those of unhappiness,
Allowing the light and warmth
Of compassion’s embrace to encourage.
Love wishing to heal despondency
Is oh so authentic,
For such an emotion,
Moving about with its essence,
Remains without boundaries,
Without qualifying admittance.
Devotion is there for the taking,
Rejecting depression as
A redoubtable foe,
An inveterate caregiver.
For…
When challenged by life’s sadness,
Tireless love
Continues creation’s indomitable mission.
After your intense description of sadness with its "outward reach", you conclude with the word that conquers all, the presence of love.
But I will agree, as far as women go, there is no reason or rhyme. Some will stick to you to the end and some will flee at whim's bend. I think your poem is telling us that you're getting comfortable being sad, miserable and lonely.
