Word Lovers

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

As scholars have surmised, the origin of the earliest form of writing appeared almost 5,500 years ago in Mesopotamia (today’s Iraq). Today, many different forms of expression through words continue to enlighten and energize those who choose to read, and those who find even deeper values realized in the company of words.

Poem Artwork

Word Lovers

To enter one’s vault of precious treasures,

Find purchase

And leave behind

The vibrations of the inordinate,

Is to open one’s mind and heart

To the unregulated,

And afford the likes of

William Carlos Williams,

T.S. Eliot,

 Ezra Pound and

H.D Browse

To become up close

And personal.

A sensory awareness…

Where notional language often becomes

Convention’s minor key of performance,

Arriving as plain-wrapped gifts,

Where makeshift ribbon and bows

Unravel the music of words,

The jazz and minimalist take

On syntactic melodies of origins unknown,

Revealing invention of non-metrical,

Non-rhyming,

Natural rhythms of speech.

Such is akin to finding a buried gold coin

Beneath the daring tides

Of Time’s ever-present unearthing of treasures,

Where discovery is

Embraced,

Revered,

Exalted,

Remembered

For the future’s conscious adventurers.

Yes I find all of the messy English dictionary at my command. Where I can write seriously using the right technical and scientific terms, and then turn around and play with slang or archaic words in ways that I hope will give people a chuckle or delight.

I don't find abstract words very useful because most people don't understand what they mean and I find that almost everything that I speak or write looks for rhyme and finds it.

Indeed, words are the highly valued instruments of communication for the poet who uses words, words, words rather than paint to creature a living picture full of emotions and meaning, a "buried gold coin as the most valuable treasure.

Wordsmiths, they mine the words like gold and find them more valuable than diamonds. Lovely poem, Odin.
