MIght the Day Come...

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

- This time of year usually begets a roster of emotions and principles that upon reflection may amount to the sentiments of the endangered species of man. With such a time in history exponentially threatening, might we act on the words “thankful” and “respectful” as passwords for survival? (Image by Katarina Plotnikova)

Poem Artwork

Might the Day Come…

Might the day come

When nature has become your Bff

When raindrops on your shoulder

Understand your conversation with them

When trees keep their leaves a bit longer

Knowing your back needs a rest from the raking

Might the day come

When clouds hear the thunder from afar

Blink across the sun to warn you

The gruff one approaches

When a brook carves new tributaries

Knowing for you to follow the old

Will lead to impassable falls

That the dolphin and whale

Are recognized as sentinels of survival

Might the day come

When feeding both predators

And prey

Will be from your hand

Might the day come

Butterfly and hummingbird

Become your permanent wingmen

When truly the most you have to fear

Will be accepted as fear itself

That day may very well come

When most humans will be extinct

When survivors will see their way

To preserve what’s left as…

All that’s left

Let us hope

For…

Such a day may not be far away.

On this day of reflection you have not gone back 2000 years, but have stated a reality that so many deny. Either they think that we can continue with free enterprise, unhindered by any rules or regulations creating an ideal world of advanced technology and wealth without hurting anyone or anything, most of all our nest, mother Earth. Or, they have already given up and pray for the Angels to come, or Jesus Christ, himself, and save the true believers, taking them off into some mythical fairyland while the rest are, "left behind."

In my short life, knowledge usually overcomes most fears. I have watched flocks of sparrows at our bird feeder. If one sparrow senses danger--fears--they all fly off. But, if the hawk or the cat they fear arrives, only one will be killed. And that one will likely be old, or sick.

We are like that flock, afraid that everyone is in danger. If one removes oneself from that social bridge that creates flocks, simple knowledge dispels flock fear. The lemming syndrome is real and it is very dangerous. When I see everyone rushing in the same direction, I go the opposite.

May your wish through your offering this special day ring true through all the readers and we began to work together using our knowledge to make a better world for every living thing, every insect we brutally torture and kill at will today.

Such noble sentiments penned here and posted on a day of thought and reflection when people's minds and hearts turn inward wondering and hope that "might the days come that . . . " Thank you for striking this positive chord who imaginings echo in the silence.
