Feather
How gently it floats and slumbers
Upon my face
Nature’s ocean beach of sun
And breeze
Inviting sanguine melodies of silence
From where
One knows not
But a piece of a feathered creature
Has chosen to facilitate the need of another
A longing for the delicate touch of love
Arriving without condition
Without recall
Without agenda
Such a moment of accepted compassion
Rests its message upon my skin
Raising up and floating
To another destination
Where similar emotional poverty
May be unknown to the needer
The journey of a feathered flight
Knows not a final resting place
Only fulfilling its purpose
Of finding often unspoken need
Love ya!

My local hawk had ruffled feathers yesterday after numerous attacks on sparrows trying to feed on our bird feeder. Some of those feathers got loose, I'm sure. Recently, evidence has been found of dinosaurs having feathers. They are remarkable in their ability to insulate, color and cover the body of what they adorn.
I'm so glad that dinosaurs had feathers. During our four day power outage, a goose down comforter kept me warm enough to sleep when nothing else would.
