The Flight of Birth

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

- Each day, life of multiple sorts is given its first awakening to being. How anticipatory that must be.

Poem Artwork

The Flight of Birth

Tomorrow’s birth

Still to be discovered

Like a hot air balloon

It navigates its course

Protected by a thimble of cells

A cup of blood

It seeks the breath

Of a north wind destiny.

Each day’s passing

It eases closer

The scent of your love

As it sleeps

The turning of direction

Its hint of landing’s arrival

Your warmth-caressing ballasts

Allowing buoyancy of descent

Its muffled cries

Like a distant eaglet seeking nesting comfort

Such sound is about to resound

As yesterday’s tomorrow

Arrives today.

Very fanciful regarding the growth of the fetus to the flight or freedom of birth. It is so interesting that blood is basically the same as seawater from whence we came millions of years ago. From water to land to birth after birth. Mutation after mutation leading finally to intelligent humans. But still at childhood when it comes to understanding our role: innocent but very dangerous.

Some, mostly economists, worry that as the population ages and contributes less to the engines of growth, while births decline making fewer young people to carry the load of work, like in Japan and some other countries, the whole world economy will be in danger.

I say, don't worry, be happy. Friendly robots will do most of the heavy lifting and even young people will have more time off for their bucket lists of personal enlightenment.

Nicely written about one of lifes greatest miracles. You have managed to make the tone of the poem as soft as I imagine the fetus life to be inside the placenta. Well done! I have wrote a poem about this when I was pregnant with my son. I named it 'Fetus'. Check it out if you have time.
