Redemption's Depth

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

The universe if so vast. The activity of sentience so vital. How does one truly find solace in standing before one’s reality? (Image by Bonnyachoat)

Poem Artwork

Redemption’s Depth

Might there be a yardstick

Long enough to allow a measurement?

For what fathomable distance

Does one’s innermost conviction and love go?

How dark might the upper layers be?

How shallow might the lower grounding be?

How answerable might the penetrating light be?

Can it give penance?

Can it offer emergence from guilt?

Can one’s admittance to a fault

Afford consideration from the empathic and epiphanous entity?

To weep in discovering

How sublime the answer,

The washing away of doubt,

The acceptance of liability,

The generous giving

Of all that’s left,

And the return of self-love.

Oh my…

Self-forgiveness

Knows so well

The depth of redemption.

I like poems that are predominately questions. This one casts a very wide net. It brings to mind a line of Natasha’s in Avengers: Endgame movie: “I don’t judge people by their worst mistakes. And this leads to your last three lines and the idea ‘I won’t judge myself by my worst mistake.’ ~~ djl

Yes, both philosophically and psychologically, I think if one forgives oneself, redemption will come in time.
