Harvest's Clouded Sunlight

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

How perpetual living is, even when it seemingly ceases for some. I can only continue to be grateful for life delivering the growing up period in New York and the contemplation period of climbing in the Alps, and the upcoming spread of life’s ashes into the wind. (image by Pinterest)

Harvest's Clouded Sunlight

With every day

we gather a bit,

we plant a bit.

Time’s waning irrigation

renders dry many tributaries

from high in the ethos-sphere,

some of purity’s blossoms

meander down rivulets of calm,

while certain regrets bang the drum slowly,

droning echoes from canyon to canyon.

We ask…

What of the times

when orange blossoms fill the air,

when alpine’s flowered reverence

sways its season beside trickling brooks?

And lest we forget…

Our concrete avenues,

where stanchions of glass and steel

hold mysteries aloft with lessons,

evolves knowledge from East side to West side.

We always remember those rough and tumble planting seasons

when sunlight seems clouded,

and food for flesh

momentarily begets starvation for thought.

Yet…

With temperance of satiation,

we arrive at harvest time,

and suddenly new sprouting appears,

the cycling conundrum of time blinks open again,

the bard’s handiwork resounds

to be or not to be.

For such breath-held moments,

we remember darkness of sleep,

radiance of sunrise,

perpetual nature of dreams.

And suddenly…

Harvest is one with the seed,

death’s fully ripened grist for Life’s mill

signals the next beginning.

“I don’t know if we each have a destiny or if we’re all floating around accidental, like on a breeze. But I think maybe it’s both, maybe both is happening at the same time.” — Forest Gump. You write: “…and the upcoming spread of life’s ashes into the wind.” LIfe & Ashes. Even your title, Harvest’s Clouded Sunlight. Maybe it’s both. Clouds & Sunlight. New York, The Alps, “food for flesh” “starvation for thought.”. Maybe both happening at the same time, or maybe taking turns. ~~ djl

And so it begins...ends...and begins again. Beautifully expressed, Odin. Have a blessed week.

Beautiful writing describing the wheel of life and the different cycles therein.

The eternal circle (cycle) of death, resurrection and return, manifested amply in nature that could be applied to our own life cycle. We think we live only once, one lifespan, but whose to see that we don't live many, the soul inhabiting different bodies at different time periods, until it learns what it needs to learn. We can't learn it all in a single lifetime, in my opinion.

Everything living and nonliving has a lifespan except the basic elements. The living have the shortest. Yet we have time, if we use it well, to have a rich life of experience, and perhaps, to write some down for future generations to ponder.

This poem you speak of a lifespan and a great understanding of what it means. We all plant the seeds of the future. Some better, like you than others.
