Dark Light

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Spending an adult life working with the serious doubts of others that life is worth living, one is often compelled to take score of oneself, and if fortunate, discover most of our epiphanies come by accepting that to know a positive, it’s often required we accept and own a negative.

Poem Artwork

Dark Light

Beginning the end

Was destiny’s way

To birth in freefall,

Finding purchase by fate.

Such intention for one’s start

Now dictates acceptance

Of design’s order,

To give comfort and resolve

For the completion of the cycle.

Such has become the calling

Of a man who now sees

Through and beyond the dark light.

How luminous is wisdom’s glow,

A light that permeates through

Experience,

Lessons learned,

Disappointments,

And the passion of empathy

Often shielded with love.

How challenging this journey

Through knowledge,

Hand-held by enlightenment,

Revealing without fanfare

Simple warmth and compassion

For smiles and frowns

Along the way

As the trek leads one higher

And higher

Up through the clouds of doubt

To the dark light revealed.

Such opaqueness like closed eyelids

Reflecting the past,

Lighting the present,

And beaming toward the future,

Discovers

Such awareness embraces radiance

As the understanding

That opaque darkness

Was necessary

To recognize life’s illuminate light.

You speak of wisdom, realizing it is such a rare commodity, especially when you write such verses as: "How challenging this journey thru knowledge." Love the image of "dark light" that you evoke here, so mysteriously true.

Yes. Without the dark there wouldn’t be light and how would one recognize true peace of mind without having known its opposite? Well written.

Wow! You and I were on the same wavelength. Your words are a lot more erudite, but we ended up at the same place. What are the odds?

I think you are right. One must really go through trials and tribulations to fully understand what life is really all about. For most it's a struggle. But there are those of us who find a way to get beyond, relax and enjoy life for what is really is--a gift to us all. We must treat our minds and bodies with care and live long.
