Forsaken Tears

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Lessons learned have their own timetables at times. Teaching’s closure can linger, be that of relationships, business, or personal study. But...this is that time of the year when good will and forgiveness, as well as joy and optimism deserve some time and effort. Wishing all a rewarding and forgiveness-filled 2023.

Forsaken Tears

Freezing shackles
Now rusted chains
Once gripped a willing heart
Now forever scrap metal
A mere heap

But

There was a time
When destiny's preying Mantis
Patiently waited...

Until

Brandishing paralysis
On innocent finding
Its razor-sharp cuts
Decorated crimson passion
Brought submissive smiles to frowns
Comedy to tragedy

Then unexpectedly

There came a day
Known little by rejection's malaise
When learned senses informed
Hard-won immunities
To gently disarm
Disguised weapons of slavery
With compassion's embrace

Consider

Lessons learned
Warm one's frigid past
Defrosts harbored resentment
Melts clinging disappointment
Evaporates icy delusions
Leaving behind

Forsaken tears

Now but drifting acceptance

Upon eyelashes of mist

So very poetic, even almost romantic, your expression of hurt that comes from loving to intensely, being betrayed, and then having to forgive the transgression in order to feel free again to love once more. Self-love is more important than loves we become trapped in that hurt us when there is no way out.

I'm grateful I do not have to forgive anyone this late in my life. Except for some loans that I have given to desperate disabled souls who have died and never paid them back, I feel no regret that I have to atone to.

The only way at times to express the inexpressible is through tears. Sometimes they are the best words the heart can speak. Those "lessons learned" as you've said, are sometimes finally realized with the shedding of tears. I relate entirely. A touching write, Odinsan. Peace.... rlc
