The Dust of Tears

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

- When a loss occurs, we often find ourselves in grief,
Shedding tears of hurt. For some of us, there is the plus of growing into a more productive sense of what love is… the being of love.

Poem Artwork

The Dust of Tears

How quiet and slowly

Moves the weeping

Of loss

Where goes these remnants of grief

These measurements of passion’s purge

When countertops

Table tops

Window sills

And door facades

Find unexpected moisture

Seeping into its world

Drying

And making its final bow

As dust.

But…

Comes the time

One dares to wipe away

This remnant of time gone

Remembrance hiding

Sorrow unending

When one finds attached love’s death

Nonredeemable

Such is the time

When epiphany claims position of tenacity

Guides the bemoaned

To love not as another attachment seek

But as a mindset of being an open book

Few dare to be

A state of just plain love

Discovery can be bliss

To those willing

Daring not to wipe away

The residual long-lasting

In the passing of sad remembrance thru lies the epiphany found at the end of this poem where "discovery can be bliss" with the caveat "to those eilling". A hopeful poem in the end with sorrow reprieve.

It seems to be a contradiction. One would not apply tears to dust. But dust is inevitable. Tears come with loss and can be brushed away like dust because they evaporate.

I think you are metaphorically describing accepting the dust of time and letting lost love become love again so that the tears can stop flowing to try to dampen the loss.

The juxtapose between tears and dust is personal. There is something to be said about thrusting yourself into the unknown instead of wallowing in the dust of past failures. Of course, there's no promise that tears and failures won't follow us if we do move on. People and circumstance will always let us down. The greatest treasure we have is life. And sometimes, breakthrough moments don't fully reveal themselves until we can start seeing the heart in the dust cloud. Thanks for your honesty. Very moving. r
