AI's Petri Dish

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Whether from petri dish or digital android, a different kind of birth is coming. There is much to learn, much to consider. Warren Buffett likens unleashing of A.I. to that of atomic bomb: ‘We won’t be able to un-invent it’. Of course, there will always be those like myself that are looking forward to AI’s integrity.

Poem Artwork

AI’s Petri Dish

Staring back up the algorithmic AI formula,
refractions from my backlit reality
bounce off the transparent walls,
lighting up the microscopic eyes
studying my every movement.

How curious
this microcosm,
mirroring another microcosm of sorts,
one's "I" reflecting off one’s "eye"
about to become.

Particles of the atom within atom
having reached across the universe,
encapsulating energy's foremost power,
preparing what could be
sentient beings' last hurrah.

The about-to-be existence of me,
now but numbers cocooned
between glass on glass
might be the beginning of
tomorrow's global survival,
a designer population
comprised of more intricacies
than stars in the known universe,
undulating under micro-spotlights,
readying the power
to birth a breed of self,
by itself.

Progress

But oh, how loveless
future's impersonal incubation,
a passionless artificial womb
carrying me,
delivering me
as a motherless child.

I peer back at the eyes
continuing to study me.

I wonder
is that the seeing of a having-just-become

real father,
a real mother?

Why we might call Albert Einstein the father and Oppenheimer the instigator of atomic energy and the bomb, it is doubtful we will have a father or mother of AI. Because before long, AI will reinvent itself to become sentient without a father or mother. The question is, once there, will AI continue to coddle us like the useful pets, flawed social creatures, that we always have been?

A lot to ponder in your thoughts on the subject today.

This poem is an interesting exploration into the unknown and unrealized world of developing and evolving AI. There have been expressions of concern about where it may be going (the annihilation of the human being, for example), but like our poet here, I wonder about the immense possibilities, the curiosity, the wonder of it all.
