Enslavement of Baggage

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

- Like most, struggling with sorrow brings on unique awareness, even after resolve has been met. Still, to have had such an experience and survived, is to grow and respect reality as a sometimes-harsh teacher, especially the tenacity of one’s determination to live life as love’s emanation, embracing all that is. Enslavement of Baggage

To avoid awakening

is to remain imprisoned

knowing well that

even as winter ends,
cold persists.

Morning light
endures shadows of the past.

Everywhere
good wishes collapse mute.

Bouquet openings
become but empty vases.

Hesitant touches
forever pretend.

Intimate whispers diminish to
but a resonance of silence.

The taste of alum tinctures
become forever's aftertaste.

Time seems to stop
 as dreams of future
become nightmares of past.

When regret finds no escape,
and shackles of blame
hold firm inside walls of guilt,
clouds remain forever without rain,
and stubborn baggage remains

your yesterday,

every day.

To awaken is to know…

The simple music
of children's laughter,

like the comforting essence
of rose petals beneath one's touch,
evaporates captivity into mere folly.

I hope I fully understand, having never let my past hang heavy on me. I surely like the last stanza because every time I hear children playing together happily, it is very encouraging. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we all stayed childlike in our behavior and never grew up to be mean and ugly.

Well captured about the prison that holding on to the past is.
