Authentic Blanks

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

With Hamas striking Israel with surprise attack, one is left wondering how will it end? What lies ahead? Waring factors spawned by religious zeal continue its centuries-old weakness of true spirit of conscience. It can be argued that much of the global sadness and disappointment increasingly surrenders to religious hatred, selfishness, and greed as their primary behavior. And we wonder why so much of this ends in war-mongering behavior. One can only hope such people will find the motivation to seek a more humbling attitude and let go of their clinging hubris. . Authentic Blanks

Reflections come in all sizes,
shapes,
tenuous,
delicate,
defying nature,
arisen unknowingly
below skirts of praise,
belts of scorn,
some awakening dervish tears
hidden beneath welts of honor.

Looking-glass-smiles lure.
Mirrored penance suffers.

Forever the mystery unsolved,
passions unbridled,
memories often living but for
tomorrow's ambush.

All the while…

Right is wrong.
Wrong is right.

Judgment ponders its banks
awash with confusion,
awaiting tomorrow’s tide.

Voices sing lonely effigies
arisen from stitches once closed,
but never healed.

Innocent whispers,
now genuine,
reach from the pods of the genetic past,
the larval ingestion for tomorrow's incarnate.

Finally…

Yesterday makes its way back.
Its consciousness of once-inert clay,
bone,
flint,
steel,
now clanging the bars where spears,
knives,
guns,
and nuclear rods
stand vigil awaiting
another tomorrow of self-destruction.

All the while…

Many reflections remain steadfast in the fog,

as they expel their final breath.

Fraudulent others continue to bide their time

as Life’s mail of unanswered questions awaits the ink.

Not knowing a return address is but hubris

clinging to some fraudulent identity,

their images mirroring truthful

authentic blanks.

How does one know whether or not they're an authentic human being? It's been proffered that: 'authenticity is freedom from the illusion of fear and alignment to the reality of love.' Perhaps the road to authenticity is a thirst for true creative freedom. Or just being true to yourself. Or, as Socrates proffered: 'To find yourself and think for yourself.' Certainly, as far as I'm concerned, authenticity starts in the heart. But who judges the intent of our hearts? An excellent image to bolster your thoughts. I love surreal art. Thanks again for stimulating thought. Peace. r

Much of written history is about the victors in unending wars. Much of our DNA contains leftover Neanderthal and Genghis Khan that we have to overcome so as not to become what you call, hubris.

The meaningless confrontation of war seems rooted in the inequality of human existence and cannot be avoided when people are forced into a corner. They tend to fight to get out.

Your words widen with meaning, Odin! You are so right about religion being the motivation for wars. Sure! Since the Crusades!! Mankind will never learn a lesson until catastrophe hits. WWIII................

Love ya!
