Poem Artwork

Future Canvases Unknown

Life's mind-colors,
like the number paintings stored in attic webs,
having become dust covered pleasures of memories past,
when Ferris wheels rotated dreams,
calliope horses-pole imaginations galloped gently,
Cotton candy playing catch-me-if-you-can.

How easy awareness painted the future,
laid down the colors most apparent.
Reds of sunset passions.
Blues of ebb and tide.
Yellows of cornfield mazes.
Green making all the landings plush as summer lawn.

Primary hues,
like even-numbered shapes
fall short the color containment.

Nature’s boundaries bleed,
as chance pushes risk.

Mustards find full-up dance cards.
Purples hemorrhage bruises once flawless cover.
Gray becomes reality's true color.

No blacks.
No whites.

Simple brush strokes
evolve to palette knife strata.

Thickness of time layers over.
Numbered boundaries melt away.
Framed borders cease to be.

How wonderful this wanderlust.

Wisdom's gift-wrapped beginning,
ever grateful the loft-stored memories,
thankful the web's defending watch
protecting time-made colors,
many with no names,
no identity.

Initiation's flirtatious way,
patiently mixing aroused shades,
tints and dyes to be cast.

How intuit,
tomorrow's canvases unknown.

As though one could paint the future… Perhaps not, but planners and dreamers do. All is not coming to a simple grayish hue. There still room for dark bright colors, primary colors, now and then if one can stand in their brilliance.

I couldn't agree with you more. Change seems to be woven into the fabric of the universe. "Nature boundaries bleed as chance pushes risk." And then some.

Seems these two conditions always dwell in juxtapose - familiarity and the unknown. Seems the sameness we need to survive can also become a detriment to one's creativity. As far as I'm concerned: The wise man adapts himself to change, just as water shapes itself to the vessel that contains it. (Not an original thought. But an example I love) The wise man never lets rejection create self-doubt. The wise man nurtures his strengths. The wise man is acutely aware that the only thing inevitable (in the physical realm) is change. Doesn't make it any easier though. I remember this piece from years ago. The title was plural then, not singular. Enjoyed. Continued inspiration. r
