Silence
Like a flamingo in repose
or a hooded falcon at rest
such Silence asks little
Listen
Fearing tumult at birth's door
mothers intuitively send the quiet asunder
knowing attachment bodes ill
one's preamble to being
Savagely Silence clings to grounding
aware
but not of danger
anticipating
but not of respite
Just as the falcon must ready the flight
as talon cinched safety gives way to change
to freedom's beckon
So too umbilical secures our random flings of arms and legs
knowing Silence gives way
to crawling
walking
running
Now ambulatory
moving through yesterday's Silence
leaving behind birth's soft caress
the inner soft voice asks
Why?
Modernity's torrid insistence
urges growth beyond
one's birthright
one's ambition
one's anything
While Silence remains ever faithful
patient the longing
knowing the outer noise
is but an illusion
begging to know
the unknown
Perhaps so. But if you have children that don't know each other and put them together, before long they are busy doing something with each other. Never sitting still and so and was looking at each other. To them it's a waste of their learning time.
I've never had a real need to following any Zen masters. I just take several times during the day when ideas relax and think of nothing. Sometimes close my eyes and listen to my own silence for a while before getting back to whatever I'm doing. A great stress releaser.
