Storehouse Guests

To not pay attention to the
process of years, is to ignore how
perfect it all is.

Poem Artwork

Storehouse Guests

While gazing at a simple flower,
he ponders the imponderable,
challenging his memory;
imagined or actual?

How slippery these reflections from youth,
when what is recalled in these later years
may merely be what was desired in younger years.

He blinks the moisture from his eyes,
not wanting to obscure what is left of the fading images,
of waning sensory awareness.

Finally…

He invites the jester to sit beside him,
where together they might enjoy what’s left
with today’s visitation of his temporal clock,
the ever-fading ticks and tocks
whenever he picks a flower,
stares,
and weeps
as smiles envelop his face

as he nods to his storehouse guests of the mind.

Surprise in three lines describing this: “….how perfect it all is.” I think those are beautiful words that touch the last two lines of “Storehouse Guests.”. Much substance comes from this post. . . the painting plays the score in music of the eye, readying for the read below. Curious title, and concept of guests being the memories themselves, I felt. This piece is for mature audiences, as the storehouse ha a ‘vacancy’ sign in the beginning of an adult life; and I feel and Ron has it by “…he trampled flowers like that under his eager feet.” ~~ djl

Eventually what is stored over the lifetime is wisdom. So sharing the flower with all of those memories of friends and acquaintances past is much more meaningful than when, as a youngster, he trampled flowers like that under his eager feet.
