Tenuous Beginnings End

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Preferring to not be anywhere else is a soothing state of mind. Nevertheless, ever-new experiences beg the continuum of reflection and examination.

Tenuous Beginnings End

Never without,

we carry our
yellow pages turning,
flapping,
fraying,
while patience longs for
woven covers,
story drenched,
thread-bare vanishings
of Time's sweet vigil.

We fear

like rivers undone by the sea,
our tendrils of living
coalesce,
separate,
clash,
re-invent.

Hidden deceits rise like genies
through bottle-necked suppressions,
duplicity's mist layers hubris sans humility,
while vacuous ether rising
gives nothing to something.

Tenacious we

with acrobatic balance
our experience straddles the perfect woven
rainbow fabric stretched tautly
shrouding Dread's weeping droplets.

But regret we will

our childhood,
adolescence one,
adolescence two,
adolescence three,
clumsily leaping to
octogenarian futures.

Living

yet left frayed
with annoying decay,
split fingernails,
wispy strands atop the pate,
stubble holding yesterday's pureed remnants.

Next?

to where the shreds of
threadbare tenacity settle
or do they ever rest?

For might
  tattered fringes remain alive forever
 as our cherished love- philia

Our lived out Neikea of Empedocles?

Four read-throughs and I’m still beyond my pay grade with this “Tenuous Beginnings End.” The fact I read, no studied, the complexity smorgasboard of this tells how fascinating I find it to be. It’s as chewy as this morning’s coffee, too stout because I errored in grounds to water ratio due to reading glasses not handy. Well, I choose these nuggets from this writing: “…story drenched,/ thread bare vanishings” because it sounds juicy, especially ‘story drenched’; stanza #2 “like rivers…” points me to the last word Empedocles with the reinventing (his reincarnation theory); “clumsily leaping to/octogenarian futures.” feels like an apt description. I enjoyed having to look up (in addition to Empedocles) the word ‘pate’ for contextual understanding as applied here….and finding a goblet of fun with that word meaning ‘top of the head,’ but with only two symbols being added above that word ‘pate,’ it would mean a kind of food, which then I enjoyed the next line containing a ‘foodish’ term = pureed, even though here it could represent experience. This whole reading gives me this much to write about that which I found to be beyond my pay grade. Bravo for that, Odin! ~~ djl
