Wings of Love

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Many of us ponder our passing and what might be revealed. A powerful beacon of growth and new beginnings, the butterfly signifies the power of transformation and the incredible feats we can achieve when we trust ourselves. We all have the ability to listen to our innate wisdom, guide ourselves through difficult times, and emerge better and stronger than before. The ancient Greeks believed a butterfly was a human soul, loosed from a deceased body. In China, the butterfly can mean both immortality and marriage. For some Christians and Native Americans, the butterfly is a symbol of rebirth. For addicts, it is a symbol of recovery. The Bible says that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new creation. The same God who takes a caterpillar and changes it into a butterfly, transforms sinners into saints. The Christian religion sees the butterfly as a symbol of resurrection. (Painting by Tuco Amalfi)

Wings of Love

To know one is home

To know to walk through the front door

Is a first

That backdoors no longer matter.

Most have had those times of revelation,

When what seemed a negative,

Was a positive in waiting,

Giving paradox its seat in the

Court of self-worth.

To be who you are.

Not who you think you should be,

Or

Who others deem is your destiny,

Who allows

The visiting butterfly

To show love in inordinate ways

As she hovers over the garden’s Blue Vervain,

Not knowing it was there for more than nectar harvest,

For she shared her moments of succulent pleasure

And winged elegance

With my presence of peace,

Soothing my often weary eyes,

Sending vibrations of love

I knew little of

At the time.

To be that person,

Being totally honest with what appeared each morning

In the mirror,

Is to be ready

To find grieving, once a negative

To a grateful weeping of tears,

Sliding down and across the smile

That christened a fresh start for a man

Having learned that existential pain

Is often enigmatic resonance

Wandering about

Trying desperately to find

Purchase.

Perhaps…

When passing becomes ones reality,

There might be no greater disappointment

For those who loved you

Than to witness you passing as

Someone you were not.

So, regale…

As far too many part from this life

Leaving behind little worth remembering.

Yet…

There will always be the fortunate,

Those of a lessor number,

Whose enlightenment has given them

A smile for feeling a closer proximity

With the state of nirvana.

May all the humble existence journey safe

With learned wings of love

To where kindness and grace are needed.

I read this to Michele. The poem itself is uniquely 'Odinesque,' and we enjoyed it, but we were both touched deeply with your summary. Here are 2 scriptural truths to mull. Butterflies and Transfiguration.
“As the men watched, Jesus’ appearance was transformed so that his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as light.” (Matthew 17:2 NLT.)
“So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.” (1 Corinthians 15:42–44)
Thank you for sharing. Peace, health, and wisdom.... rlc

A tender, sensitive poem taking us by the hand thru the travails and wonders of a transforming life, from "to find grieving, once a negative to "enigmatic resonance wandering about trying desperately to find purchase." The beauty of yin and yang is that it highlights the paradox found within all human emotion, the "tears sliding down and across the smile."
