False Friends-True Enemies

“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always.”
― Mahatma Gandhi - (Image by Bruno)

Poem Artwork

False Friends-True Enemies

Evolving often comes with a price.

To face the grasp of circumstances

May prod your voice to cry out.

Wince not,

Nor wail aloud,

For under the weight of chance,

Authenticity keeps your imperiled being courageous,

Your unbowed head,

Your truth,

Your integrity,

Stalwart.

Growing means

Making ready for false friends,

True enemies,

And love

As your arbiter.

It hurt me that some friends were not what I had thought.

They wanted my help to make a better sale, but I was indeed bought.

I was naive and could not see through red, white, and green.

How could they be so thoughtless, heartless, and downright mean?

Even though they were not as I first visualized them in the end.

I miss the person I thought they were, so in my heart, they will remain as friends.

Thank you, Odin, for helping me purge those poetic words.

Just what could help human beings through contemporary reality , this. The Gandhi quote is just the message for global disparity. Your “Authenticity…” line is a fire opal in this writing. ~~ djl

Better to know and be able to deal with the "true enemies" than with those of the "false friends".

So true, and so well told. It's too bad the bastards don't have
and expiration date.

Odin! Your words are so powerful in this poem!! I believe I will hold onto love as my arbiter and remain "in my lane". The fakers can stay in theirs. I'll see them ahead and take a detour. 'Love this!!

Love ya!

I imagine it would be helpful to have the kind of discernment that would allow you to see the phoniness beforehand. Still... time always has a way of filtering out what's real and what's not. As it's been said: "it's a sad day when you find out who your friends aren't." Thanks for sharing. r
