Circus of the Mind

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

With tomorrow night’s debate looming in the shadows, one wonders what kind of circus Orange will attempt, for we all have our own distraction way of evading pain. Some just have more fun with it. And some, well… some need help.

Poem Artwork

 Circus of the Mind

Juggler of live hand grenades and lemons.

A tumbling contortionist.

Live statue impersonating a super hero.

Escape artist walking the tightrope.

Crystal ball stroked by the mind reader

As amateur ventriloquist laughs on.

Experiencing all this funny fun distraction,

He pets the blind man's cat on a leash,

As he pays for the daily paper.

Later…

Still in the throes of his circus world,

His mind sits him quietly across from his always-vocal wife

Jabbering about the weather

As his concentration returns to his frontal lobe

Where the trapeze artist gazes down

At the distant growling tigers circling his catcher net

Wondering why they are so angry at him.

“Ready for a break, Arthur?”

The man in the white coat

Places the daily dose of pills in the Ring Master’s hand.

“Time for the striking of your big tent, little man,”

As he hands the smiling round face some water.

“Down the hatch, now.”

I believe that Biden was dumbfounded by the lies "Orange" was ejecting from his mouth, rather shocked! How to process lies is confusing to anyone. I'd go to that "circus" myself! No doubt!! Excellent ink, Odin!!

Love ya!

Exquisite capture and containing surprises, how succinctly your painted the jabbering wife, and Arthur’s true state of being. The three lines “Experiencing all this funny….” is the bold print scene, and I love the way you wrote that. This gives me a feel of Hunger Games, The Greatest Show On Earth, Don Juan de Marco, and the book ‘Water for Elephants.’ Good atmosphere creation in this one. ~~ djl

This one is a masterpiece except for the reality of the opening explanation.

I recall the first debates were out in the open on a soapbox and the candidates had to have a strong voice reaching the people on the far end of the rabble crowd. Sometimes, they threw rotten tomatoes at the speakers if they didn't like them.

I will evade the pain of listening to Orange pontificate by watching Alone and Alone Australia. Where real survivalists endure real pain to see if they are as good as our ancestors. Even with allowed 10 modern items for their comfort, some of them "tap out" in a very few days and almost all of them couldn't make it through a single winter while most of our ancestors from the northern climates did, although they died quite young… Why we are not as intelligent as we were then. And why we let buffoons become president.

Ron
