Blameless

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

There’s little to match the magic of observing blamelessness in a child and the guess as to when it will all disappear into the many layers of guilt.

Poem Artwork

 Blameless

The morning wake for a child

Often brings its laughter into a dance

Only parents understand.

A clear morning light shrouding

The innocence personified in the child’s face

Opening the eyes with wonder

As they see the surrounding life anew,

Communicating each moment into a small treasure,

The joyful breathing of an unspoken mantra of gratitude.

A child’s gaze at the sky unfolds dreams

So simple

And humble in its realization.

Such imagination paints a child’s thoughts into layers of hope

On their mind’s butterfly creations,

Not comprehending the fragility of wings,

Nor the fleeting nature of time,

Innocent time,

The precious time so needed after childhood.

For this day,

This time,

Their small hands can accept the earth

As a soft and forgiving playground

Of fathomless possibilities.

Their dada and mama

Is the language of the stars,

Their words pure and unencumbered by doubt.

How quickly we forget

Innocence as a fragile bloom

Growing in this garden of youth,

Nourished by the sun of love,

Irrigated by the rain of happiness.

Such moments emit secrets to the wind,

And a ballet in the heart’s virtuous stage of devotion,

Reminding mama and dada

Of innocence that once was with them

Can still be rekindled into a fresh reality.

Your expressions in this tender writing have their fingers on the pulse of the nucleic human soul. That you can express this awareness so keenly makes me know you know. The virtue of human-ness is not only the presence of purity in innocent beginnings, but also the ability to feel and see it, as you have shown to have done in these lines. My favorite line is “Communicating each moment into a small treasure,” — that line envelopes the others into the essence of this ‘Blameless’ and I love the whole of it all. Thank you ~~ djl

I think we sometimes underestimate the power and influence of the innocence and beatitude exhibited in the presence of infants and young children. Even ten-year-olds, while they have already started to develop their own little quirks and insecurities, still show unbridled and spontaneous love and affection offered to others with no strings attached. let's not forget Wordsworth famous verse, "The child is father to the man," or the Biblical quote to the effect that unless we become as little children, we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. We have much to learn from you, as you beautifully suggest in this fine poem.
