Barred Politics of Fear

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

With barely 3 weeks to Election Day, fear in American politics is at a historical high. And to look around, fear has become the primary emotion threatening to suffocate the world. The choice is still there: to be cowardice or courageous, to remain a prisoner behind the bars, or a free person outside looking in. (Image by Odin AI)

 Barred Politics of Fear

For far too many…

Ghosts of experience,
Pain once felt,
Forever present,
Lurk in one's mind-cave.

Refracting light
Mirrored on all sides,

Even while concealed beneath ethereal fog,
Huddled with festering scabs of trust abandoned,
Patience anticipates the hour glass of courage draining.

 Shades of agony
Parade in shadows,
As sands of time and space
Await to trigger even more fear,
Knowing such torturous weaponry
Remains far greater than pain itself.

Easing forth as doubt and despair,
Dread enters theses reflective walls,
Invisible to light,
Empty of its own reflection,
Its image but a moist acknowledgment
Inside the arm's cavity,
Beneath the groin.

 Thus enters the mystical,
Initiating birth of reverence,
Impelling us to love the most,
That personage who loves us most.

 Hence the eidolon rises,
Hooking any and all on holy dread
From teachings unsolicited
By a lamb of duplicitous intent.

Yet…

Like the wolf we never see,
The tornado never heard,
The smoke without odor,
Emotions too can be elusive,
Even though never void of reality.

For the fortunate…

Feelings being of cognitive strength,
Overcome such dominance,
Evading emotion's fear,
Breaking out from shackles and bars
Into rational passion's embrace,
Where one's mind
Remembers well the once dank prison of fears
Now but an enigma wandering about aimlessly.

I once chased academic degrees in search of enlightenment, knowing this world was too screwed up for ignorance. Still, I had never run into someone as incoherently devoid of sense and sensibilities as Donald Trump. Can you imagine a blubbery mass waddling on stage for 39 minutes, with his benefactors in attendance with no connection at all to any of them? Yet this blob of protoplasm is tied in a deadheat with Kamala Harris, a lady with class, and charm, and insight, and intelligence who connects with relative ease with all men and women of goodwill. If ignorance is bliss, we have a long way to go to find an inflection point.

The issue of fear seems to be rarely dealt with, in my experience, so on that front alone make this poem a remarkable exploration of an emotion that we seldom address head on. Well done and eye=opening.
