Coldness of Fire

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

This is certainly not the time to address fire lightly, even though the history of the flame has played serious roles in peaceful experiences. The war like expressions such as Los Angeles is continuing to suffer from is a regretful moment for Nature. One has to feel very sad at what has happened. These are thoughts hopefully finding resonance with all, but mostly for the many who are experiencing unimaginable pain of lost lives and property..  Coldness of Fire

Fire of warmth

What drove your flame of survival

From cave to tent

From coal stove to gas furnace

To rockets of planetary exploration

Sending humankind as scientists of discovery?

What drove our candles of hope

Kept alive and well

Into such a rogue wildness disseminating life and structure?

Was it but a tiny flame urged on by breezes,

Into wind,

Into cyclonic out of control movements of destructions?

Candles of hope stand dormant with sorrow

As the coldness of holocaustic flames continue.

How cold the flame today

Its capacity as friend to all

Has had its nature so disturbed

That like a petulant child stumbling about in big-people’s clothing

It continues to fallingl and getting back up

Painfully experiencing the lesson being taught by energy gone astray

Lest we forget…

Nature cannot be taken  for granted.

Respect its often-capricious temperament

Remember what it is capable of

And pay homage to the tomorrows of learned wisdom

That the warmth of a candle flame’s essence can convey.

Beautifully expressed on this timely issue, putting an important perspective to the horror that we are now daily witnessing in California. Excellent work.

Very tasteful covering both fire's necessity and it's danger that increases as it is used destructively in wars raging around the globe.

Two years ago my sister built a two bedroom retirement home in the woods on the property from 150 years of her husband's ownership of the land. In the 60 years I've known the property, storms have brought down tall trees but there never has been a fire.

The home is entirely clad in metal and set in a clearing where no tree can fall on it or fire burn directly to the building.
