Poem Artwork

 Yesterday’s Love Anew

Strange…

In a way not experienced before

To love and find the darkness

That sometimes follows when it seems so quiet

Yet…

The heart knows beyond skipping a beat

When the mind forgives the heart

And the heart the mind

Openings appear

Yes…

Different after many years

But like a friend not seen in a long time

Love finds its way through shadows of yesterday

To the images

Sounds

Sights

Touches

Taste

And oh, the fragrance of eau de parfum

Slow gliding across the room

Today’s fast-lane world

Often makes it difficult to enjoy

Simple joys of just living in the aliveness of the moment

Love understands

Proving its indomitability

With unexpected gentleness

Hear it whisper its trust

In our growth of lessons learned

Perhaps Tolstoy said it best

“He felt now that he was not simply close to her,

But that he did not know where he ended and she began.”

Such a beautiful and deep expression. Follow your heart, Odin.

Yes... the heart and mind have to work in unity. As it's been proffered: The heart unites whatever the mind separates, pushes on beyond the arena of necessity, and transmutes the struggle into love. In context, the Tolstoy quote is spot on. A moving insight Mr. Bateman. Thank you for sharing... rlc

As a pimply faced teenager I found finding love a real challenge. But as I look back over the loves of my life I have to say that things turned out all right anyway because I may have been disappointed with some of my earlier choices for who I would love.

I am disturbed to hear that, not only are young people today avoiding marriage, they are depressed. Depression is the wrong way to start a relationship. Often they are very codependent and devastating. It makes me glad to have lived when I did without regrets. And today my dreams are often wonderful and erotic. New lovers I never even dreamed of before.
