Filling the Gap

It is so easy to forget the strength of the inner self, especially in a hate torn war where peaceful resolve with others seems so distant. (Image by Odin AI)

Poem Artwork

 Filling the Gap

How strained the eyes become

Searching the night for a glimpse

Of the moon when it receives

A star gazing whisper,

When hearts beat out their secrets softly,

Yearning for a presence,

A touch,

A voice.

In the moonlight

The eyes seek out the horizon

Where calm seas meet the cloudless sky.

A time when

The soothing calm

Can embrace peace.

Such are the times when the soul

Dreams of open hearts,

Where kindness flows like rivers,

Where caring and love are not

Fleeting shadows,

But a constant light.

When hands reach out

Finding fingers brushing corrupted air,

When they only wish to connect with understanding

In this global darkness that feels so vast,

Such unending distance.

Still…

Never loosing hope,

Wanting movement in the right direction

To fill the gap,

Be love,

Be happiness,

Rely less on others,

More on the infinite grace

The self is capable of,

Especially in searches of such humble demands.

Good choice of title for this, ‘Filling the Gap,’ and lines following that title contain ache, need, appreciation, sadness & pain. “Such are the times…” stanza holds handfuls of hope and knowledge of ‘better.’ Two gleaming words ‘humble demands,’ stand next to each other, each redefining the other when put together. That is brilliant word art. I also value “connect with understanding” because ‘understanding’ seems to be the platform upon which harmony and discordance both stand, sorting out the movement and the ‘right’ direction between each other. “…kindness flows like rivers,” that is strikingly-good, written music. Enjoyed this, thank you! ~~ djl

Beautifully penned and wise, Odin.

It's really hard to face hate and corruption with calm resolve. There always seems to be a generational revenge revolution. But Martin Luther King proved, along with Gandhi, that a revolution can be carried out with non-violence and won.

You gave me a lot to think about. How can we stop the innocent in Gaza being exterminated and the same thing in Ukraine by Russian ambition and nothing more.

The Vietnamese and Filipino fisherman who have lost nearly everything to the Chinese taking over the South China Sea.

Indeed, such a finely crafted message of hope in this world of "global darkness." A huge gap does exist between what we show ourselves to be and what we potentially can be. Nicely penned gift of hope.
