Political Orchards

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

With the President mockin 9-0 Supreme Court decision to facilitate the return of Abrego Garcia brings with it not only a constitutional crisis, but a reminder of so many commonalities associated with Man and Nature. One need stop for a moment or two and remember once upon a time, generous honest pursuit could deliver “the right thing” epiphanies. (Image by Odin AI)

 Political Orchards

In the irrigation of governance,

fruit-bearing trees yield much to care for.

Why then does Washington avail itself

Almost exclusively to low-hanging fruit,

Ripe with vulnerability?

As stretching for the higher branches

Is seldom a choice,

Targeting the lower branches

Makes defenseless prey

Easy taking for the predators.

Will those of little protection

From the ravages of greed

Find any respite and peace

From patient indulgence,

Knowing they are hanging by Nature’s care

For Humankind?

The vulnerable,

Sweet with innocence

Inevitably bear the weight of promises,

Of protection,

Of care yet falls into the hands

Of those whose only the ease of the harvest.

Here, beneath the canopy,

Shadows of deceit whisper

Of lives impacted by policies,

Of dreams squashed by decisions

Made in chambers far removed

From the roots of the orchard.

Such threats

Cause the fragile,

The ones unable to fight back,

To sway gently in the breeze,

Having to wait for the compulsive hand

To pluck another trophy of conquest,

Or to suffer the falling into total abandonment.

How forgetful this mass of power

That belies the innate harmony of truth

The purpose of Nature

And of Man.

For many,

Self-disciplined behavior and a Renaissance of integrity

Will have to be learned,

For as Forrest Carter uttered in his liturgical sense:

“Take only what you need,

Not what you want.”

I read that it was a 5/4 decision showing the affect of loading the Supreme Court with loyalists instead of apolitical jurists.

You skillfully describe the process that corporations used to restructure their organizations the way that the top brass wants it and to hell with the hard-working people that make the organization what it is. And when those higher ups finally are ousted for malfeasance, they get a golden parachute and land on another job where they can treat people like the serfs of old. Without repercussion.

This contemporary outlook is spot-on, Odin. Amidst the message, you have swirled with a tone of kindness to the gentle ones. Imagery is enormous in lines: “The ones unable to fight back,/To sway gently in the breeze,” and this deeply-rich line: “From the roots of the orchard.” There is grace in the lines: “Shadows of deceit whisper/Of lives impacted by policies,” — and oh how I concur with the whole of this …. my being aghast at residents of our country being referred to as ‘homegrowns’ — as in ‘a crop’ — a commodity. A tragedy of travesty we are all living. And to Forrest Carter I say, ‘yes, exquisitely-said,’ and ‘want’ can certainly be a foul four-letter word. I’ve been lost on the floor of the orchard myself recently, so I will now go post something positive on my page. Thank you ~~ djl
