Trust Imperiled

As a society in Mach speed to become impoverished of Love and compassion.
The principle of trust may be of greater protective need than even love today. (Image by Odin AI)

Poem Artwork

 Trust Imperiled

Somewhere behind the fortified walls of the mind,

 shadows flicker and murmurs linger.

Trust once stood

as a fragile glass,

now shattered by the weight of doubt.

Eyes that once met with anticipation and warmth,

now glance away,

 cold and distant.

Remembering words that once flowed without obstacles,

now trickle,

 hesitant and guarded.

Promises,

like autumn leaves caught in a tornado of hurt,

now fall,

scattering, like a season of life forgotten,

turning a heart of gentle existence into a fortress built of stone,

guarded by the ghosts of broken faith.

In the silence,

whispers of betrayal prey on the notes and cards of intimacy,

once a symphony, now but dissonant discords of fractured dreams,

Trust’s delicate threads unravel through the hands of time.

Yet…

In the rubble a seed of hope buried deep awaits to bloom again,

as even in the darkest night,

the dawn will come and trust may be given another chance.

Confidence dictates…

The all-forgiving endurance of patience

spawns the light that

nurtures all that grows…

and regrows.

This is beautiful and the shattering glass stuck with me as well. Trust is a form of forgiveness.

Is there anything more devastating than the heartbreak of betrayal and the shattering of trust? Probably not because it seeps into all areas of the mind and heart. Trust as "fragile glass" indeed, a more apt symbolic image could not be found for this vulnerable state of connection. Yet hope abides as a seed as the poem states: "in the rubble, a seed of hope "buried deep awaits to bloom again." Life is not about death and decay but live and healing. Much food for thought in this intense, profound poem.
