Awakening

Seeing and accepting oneself in one’s own mind's eye is often a challenging process.

Poem Artwork

 Awakening

The cover of cotton comfort
How secure the asylum
Overhead
Body
Snuggled deep in pre-sleep

How determined we become
To relieve that daily nemesis
Reality’s reminder that fantasy
Desires nothing more than peace

Our minds and hearts
Scream at each other
Wanting only the accord
Available to those who abandon
Make-believe beyond

Informative abstract
Accepting not reason and logic
Opting instead for the quick fix of escape
Suffers vacuous results

Where goes the lost potential
The essence struggling for actuation
The reaching ratification of reality
Wanting but understanding
Expecting nothing beyond acceptance?

For the weak
Gravity holds firm
For the strong
Purity of soul renders invisible
Those obstacles reserved for the anemic

The few who open eyelids
Consenting to light and colors
Infiltrating the monochromatic world of failure
Flows a rainbow of understanding

How revelatory the moment
When allowance delivers epiphanies, remarkable
Rendering doubt, but a glitch
Self-loathing, a challenge
Where the outcome is all it needs to be
While pursuing
An awakening

True wisdom Odin. But I am so thankful for the tool of fantasy and escape. Without it I would have died years ago. Knowing ourselves comes only though reality and sometimes it does take a long time to arrive at that stark place of reality. Wonderful poem.

More likely than not this is a subject that most of us have had to deal with, although we don't share it as masterfully as you have done.

I think the ultimate awakening is when someone addicted reaches the bottom and decides to change. Fortunately, I've spent my life avoiding over entering into any addictions and therefore have stayed as open as I possibly can two new ideas coming down the line.

I find myself seeking the comfort of cotton only after a long day of hard work, either mental or physical. With a period of winding down, basically a couch potato relaxation just watching TV nonsense and reality. Until my eye become droopy and I sleep a while and dreamy night. Ready to face the next day without excessive worry or misinformation.
