Stygian Crown

There are times in governance when voices of truth are muffled, smothered, and often removed in numerous ways. (Image by Odi AI)

Poem Artwork

 Stygian Crown

In the underworld of governance,

where light is a liability,

the king sits not on a throne but a ledger,

each line a name erased,

each decree a shadow cast over the commons.

He rules by subtraction:

of protections,

of voices,

of memory.

The purge begins with silence,

and ends with a snitch’s whisper sent to a bureaucratic abyss.

His scepter is forged from grievance,

a list of donors and dissenters,

those who paid,

and those who dared not.

He rewards the former with gold-laced influence,

the latter with exile,

sometimes literal: students detained for thought crimes,

researchers vanished from campuses for proximity to protest.

This is not rule.

It is ritual, a coronation of cruelty.

Yet even in this black reign,

there are archivists of light,

those who hide truth in code,

who bury compassion in encrypted vaults for future resurrection.

They do not kneel.

They do not chant the king’s name.

They write,

they remember,

they resist.

And in that resistance,

the Stygian crown begins to crack.

For now the poets exceed the journalists; your line, “They write,” — and that which “They write,” under the covers, in the margins, hidden beneath floorboards, “..truth in code,” and in not kneeling, the words do the bleeding and screaming for the people, mouths sewn shut, the words tell the story in fine detail, uncensored under the covers in those “…encrypted vaults for future resurrection.” Anne Frank…Frank McCourt…frankness unredacted. ~~ djl

A very strong reference to someone everyone knows. Donald Trump.

Let us hope that prose like yours reaches the masses, a large portion who would have been brainwashed and mesmerized by slogans and chanting something they hope for but is given back with a lot of hot air and no substance.

May they see the light and come up from the unearthly quagmire they are stuck in.

"in this black reign", yes that just about sums it all up in this searing indictment of authoritarian governance, all in the name of control and manipulation, all delivered to the public in the form of overwhelming lies or obscuration. A timely write indeed.
