Just Being is Adrift

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

A poem written a while back game to mind and compelled me to address it again as we truly seem adrift… much worse than a few years ago. BREAKING NEWS - DEMS ARE SUGGESTING 25TH AMMENDMENT MAY BE OF HELP. (image by Odin AI)

Poem Artwork

 Just Being is Adrift

Mountains and sea
still perform the oldest duet,
stone and water,
gravity and surrender,
no ego in their choreography.

Clouds sculpt the sky
without polling for approval.
Rain falls
because falling is its truth.

But down here
in the human labyrinth,
we complicate ourselves,
trading instinct for image,
clarity for spectacle,
wisdom for noise.

Our politics rattle
like loose machinery:
gears stripped,
bolts missing,
operators arguing
over the manual
instead of repairing the engine.

We call ourselves evolved,
yet falter where mountains stand firm,
where oceans remain honest.

Nature knows what it is.
We keep forgetting.

Is it truly so impossible
to find a woman or man
steady enough,
true enough,
to guide us back
to the comfort of reality,
to the simple, grounding act
of just being
who we are
and not the fantasies
we invent?

Very profound. I especially like this analogy…

"Our politics rattle
like loose machinery:
gears stripped,
bolts missing,
operators arguing
over the manual
instead of repairing the engine."

I see a lot of ignorance, intolerance, greed, hatred, and anger instead of us all getting together and solving our problems, one by one. While most of the population either doesn't care or feels helpless, I see the United States sliding into a situation similar to 1930s Germany.

We have our brown shirts, our scapegoats, our conquering ambitions, and even rejection of science and intellect. Cronyism runs rampant and loyalty is demanded over reasoned allowable criticism under free speech being whittle away.

We need a hero to turn things around…many heroes.

What impresses me in this piece is the calm honesty that feels rare so rare in this hysterical age of ours. The way you set nature’s effortless integrity against our self‑made chaos is deeply resonant so that we can "just be who we are and not the fantasies we invent." Well said and in a timely manner.
