Just Passing Through

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Everyone has such a moment. Some deny it. Some defy it. Some embrace it trusting the theory of existence is one of the few imponderable facts. What an adventure for planning. (Image by Odin AI)

Just Passing Through

I
Across the quiet lattice of uncounted ages
a greater current hums,
not bound to lungs or memory,
but to the drifting architecture
of all things becoming.

Galaxies rearrange themselves
like slow-breathing candles,
illuminating the hidden grammar
of departures and arrivals.
What we call moments

are only brief brushstrokes
on an ever-widening canvas
that refuses to end.

II

Here, echoes of ancestral wonder
mingle with unborn footsteps:
an orchestra of could-have-beens
and yet-to-come certainties
tuning themselves in the folding distance.

Every soul,
whether burdened, lifted, wandering, or still,
moves along this vast inheritance of luminous thresholds.
Even silence participates,
holding its lantern high
for those who listen
to the invisible work of becoming.

III

And when the final tether loosens,
when time’s thin veil drifts aside,
a deeper geography reveals itself,
one without dusk, without direction,
where presence is its own horizon.
Here, passage is merely punctuation,
and the sentence continues
beyond the margins we once believed in.
Continuum gathers us gently,
unhurried, unafraid,
into the widening breath
of whatever waits
 one’s next forever

You are waxing very poetic with this one. Describing a continuum of universal change where human existence his body drop in the ocean of time.

While human existence is so rare, it may be the only one, it's nice to think that we are but a footnote in time. In all of our importance is not important at all in the greater theme of things.

A beautifully thoughtful piece, Odin. You trace our brief human passage against such vast, luminous distances. The imagery of thresholds, echoes, and the “continuum” gathering us in gives the poem a serene, almost cosmic feeling.

We have different paint brushes, yours more polished than mine. But I'm pretty certain we see similar events with an eye toward what is possible and potential. But nobody writes with your insight to what it all means.

"trusting the theory of existence" A mouthful that. And a central topic in Philosophy, Metaphysics and Ontology. The Greeks, Hindus, and Buddhists offered many alternate possibilities and musings about what exists. For instance Ontological pluralism. Some suggest that certain entities exist in various ways, while others suggest that existence is a uniform property. The Philosopher Kant proffered that existence is not a property of objects, but rather a condition that allows properties to be ascribed to them. Everything in the creation exists in a constant state of flux, transitioning from one state to another over time. There is a big difference between 'being', and 'becoming' and "ones next forever" (as you put it) depends entirely on a simple decision you make in the here and now. Nothing is ever going to change that. Colorful thinking ole' friend. Enjoyed. Hope you're well. Peace.
